What Acupuncture for Prenatal Supports
Pregnancy can bring a lot of change (often quickly), and acupuncture can help support your body to adapt with ease and comfort from first trimester to labour preparation.
First Trimester
During the first 13 weeks, we focus gently on support and development. Treatment may include relieving morning sickness, and headaches, along with any other symptoms that may arise. It is usually recommended to see your registered acupuncturist every 1-2 weeks depending on your assessment during the initial acupuncture session. Learn more about this process here.
Second Trimester
During weeks 14- 27, we continue support and development of baby. We alleviate any present discomforts such as sleep interuptions, indigestion, body pain, and headaches. Treatment frequency is every 2-4 weeks depending on session presentation which will be discussed during your treatment.
Third Trimester
From week 28 upto 40+, we are treating mom and baby in support of the next step in this journey. If breech presentation occurs, we address this starting at 30 weeks. Beginning around week 36 we begin treatment for labour induction.
Labour Induction Acupuncture + Postnatal Support
Labour induction acupuncture begins around week 36 of pregnancy. We encourage cervical ripening, reducing anxiety, and descending baby downwards for the next step in this journey. Frequency of these sessions are discussed during your treatment based on your birth plan and what has occurred during your pregnancy journey.
Acupuncture and TCM are options to support the postnatal transition. It provides the ability to improve sleep, support lactation, and reduce postpartum concerns.
